Fire at Hellebore Castle sparks mystery
Castle Hellebore was still smoking after the raging fire that engulfed it last night, almost certainly killing the resident Hellebore family and the castle staff. Firefighters fought all night long to prevent the blaze from spreading through the whole castle, but unfortunately they were unable to rescue anyone.
Fire Chief Edward Morely from Keithly Bluewatch commented, "I've never seen such a enormous blaze. Keithly's a small village and we're just not used to tackling anything of this size. We had a full force out there, but that's still only a handful of firefighters. There's nothing more we could have done."
Inspectors will be moving in today amid the ashes to find out what might have caused the fire and assess damage to the castle. Due to the size and ferocity of the blaze, they are pessimistic about finding any useful clues.
Local residents at Keithly are shocked that such a large blaze could have started in the first place, and panic is setting in within the village at thoughts of a rogue arsonist.
"I've never seen such a large blaze. Keithly's such a small village, we're just not used to tackling anything of this size. We had a full force out there. There's nothing more we could have done."
"I saw a figure in the distance who was fleeing the castle just before the fire," claimed Judith White a resident of Keithly for 42 years. "They didn't hang around."
Police are currently investigating the possibility of an arsonist, but have no hard evidence to support the theory at present.
